In the village of Keembe, the lives of many people depend on rain fed subsistence crop farming, which leaves them vulnerable to the dire effects of climate change. To combat climate change effect vulnerability, the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources together with Africa 2000 Network and the United Nations Development Programme developed an initiative to localise the Millennium Development Goals. The impact of the programme helped the people of Keembe to turn their lives around, provide support to their families and dream bigger and better things for the future.

The Ministry of Finance (MoF) in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are sending four (4) university students from the University of Zambia (UNZA) to represent Zambia at a youth conference on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Turkey. Youths from all over the world will gather in Istanbul to discuss the attainment of the MDGs in different parts of the world and how young people can contribute positively to their success.

Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) is an effort to create a financial value for the carbon stored in forests, offering incentives for developing countries to reduce emissions by curbing deforestation  and invest in low-carbon paths to sustainable development. The Government of the Republic of Zambia with the assistance of the United Nations is developing the UN-REDD Programme, aimed at preparing the country for future REDD+ implementation.

Following the UN-REDD Policy Board approval of the programme budget, the programme document is being finalized and arrangements are being made to commence the implementation.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme held a media training workshop for broadcast and print media on the responsibility of the media to report elections in a balanced, fair and accurate manner. The guest of honour, Director of the Electoral Commission of Zambia, Mr. Dan Kalale opened the five –day workshop entitled “Zambia: Media Training for Journalists on Ethical Elections Reporting” attended by 20 journalists in Palmwood Lodge on Monday 19 July 2010 in Lusaka.
